Gotcha day

Bringing a dog into your life is a special moment, and what better way to celebrate than on their ‘Gotcha Day’ – the anniversary of the day you adopted your beloved friend?

This is a great excuse to shower them with love, treats, and fun activities.

Whether you’re celebrating your pup’s first Gotcha Day their tenth, here are some creative and heartwarming ideas to make it that little extra special.

Throw a Doggy Party

Invite your pup’s furry friends (and their owners) for a dog-friendly gathering at your home or a local park for some extra space.

Wherever your venue, why not set up some play areas for the dogs and a feeding area with water bowls and dog-safe treats such as our Cainine Cupcakes or Dog Eclairs and even put up some fun doggy decorations such as this glittery Happy Gotcha Day banner from Amazon?

Don’t forget refreshments and treats for your human guests as well.

Pamper Your Pup

Treat your four–legged friend to a little pampering with a relaxing bath, a gentle brush-out, and maybe even a paw massage.

Or, if they enjoy being groomed, why not take them to a professional groomer for a fresh cut and a paw-dicure to help them feel fabulous on their special day?

Give Them a New Toy or Accessory

Surprise your pet with a ‘Happy Gotcha Day’ gift such as a new toy like the Kong Classic, a cosy bed such as the Hideaway from Ivy and Duke, or stylish collar to mark the special occasion. Pick something that suits your dog’s personality and will bring them lots of joy on their special day.

Donate in Their Honour

Another great way to celebrate is to give back to the dog shelter. If they’re adopted or rescued, then perhaps even to the place where you first found your pet.

You can donate much needed supplies such as dog food, toys and blankets or even volunteer a few hours to help other dogs in need of their forever homes.

Plan a Photoshoot

Capture the joy of the occasion with a special photoshoot. You don’t have to go to all the expense of hiring a photographer and a studio. Find a space in your home with lots of light and add a backdrop such as a decorative blanket.

Then, dress your pet up in a cute outfit or bowtie and take adorable pictures to commemorate the day. You can even print them out and add them to a themed photo album for you to both treasure for years to come.

Create a ‘Barkuterie’ Board

Make a dog-friendly charcuterie board with different treats like sliced apples, peanut butter, carrots and even some of our Biscuit Paws. You could even make a human version of your Barkuterie board for you to eat as well. Who says you can’t enjoy a date day with your pup?

Get a Custom Portrait or Paw Print Art

Commission a custom pet portrait or make DIY paw print art using pet-safe ink or clay such as this air dry clay kit from Not on the High Street. Which can serve as a beautiful keepsake to treasure.

End the Day with Extra Cuddles

After all the excitement, why not wind down with some quality time together? Whether it is belly rubs, a long cuddle session, head pat or scratch on their favorite scratch spot is a great way to remind them just how much they are loved.

Your dog’s Gotcha Day is a celebration of your love, companionship, and the wonderful bond you both share. No matter how you choose to celebrate, the most important thing is to make your pup feel special and appreciated.

After all, they’ve brought so much joy into your life – it’s only fair to return the favor!
