There’s no reason why our furry friends should miss out on the joy of patisserie!
This National Baking Week, we’re bringing you three simple, dog-friendly recipes inspired by classic French staples and homemade bakes: Mini Macarons, Dog-Friendly Biscuits, and Mini Quiches.
All recipes use safe, wholesome ingredients to make sure your pup will enjoy a variety of treats that are both delicious and nutritious. Happy baking!
Recipe One — Mini Macarons
These dog-friendly ‘macarons’ skip the sugar and almond flour but are as tasty as they are cute!
Ingredients for the macaron shells:
- 120g oat flour (or coconut flour)
- 1 medium egg
- 2 tbsp (30g) unsweetened applesauce (or pumpkin puree)
Filling options:
- Unsweetened peanut butter (xylitol-free)
- Mashed banana
- Plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 150°C (fan 130°C). Mix the oat flour, egg, and applesauce until it forms a thick dough.
- Shape the shell dough into small balls (about 2.5cm), flatten gently into macaron shells.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until firm but not browned. Take out of the oven and cool completely.
- Add filling of your choice between two shells.
- Chill in fridge for 15 minutes to firm.
Tip: Store in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze. Always use dog-safe nut butters (no xylitol or added sugar).
Recipe Two — Dog-Friendly Biscuits
Just like our favourite Marbled Dog Snaps, these crunchy, customisable biscuits are perfect for training rewards or even just an afternoon snack.
